Absolute Write – December Blog Chain – Part 13

Into Mossfallow Wood, pt. 13 – Absolute Write Blog Chain

This month’s Absolute Write‘s blog chain is actually a blog-O-phone. Everyone writes 250 words of a story and the next person continues it on. We’re currently up to part thirteen, so you may want to start at the beginning to get the full effect.

“HELP!”

Claire, Alan and Cal watched as the snowmobile careened past the tree and went off in the direction of the house.

“Was that…”

Claire hung her head in shame and disbelief. Leave it to those two to get things absolutely wrong. “Yes, that was Kyle and Chris.”

“Are they going to be okay?”

“As long as we don’t hear an explosion…”

BOOM!

“Uh…”

Claire looked at Alan in disbelief. She wasn’t sure where to go now. Help the idiot Cal back to the house, or go after her friends. Then she looked down at the bottom of the tree where the ginormous dog lay whining. This was not a good day. Except for the injured trespassers, her grandpa was not going to like his insurance bill.

“You go find your friends. I’ll help him to the house.”

Slowly they made their way down out of the tree, Cal collapsing in the snow. Claire looked at Allen who nodded towards the smoke they could see rising above the trees.

“Go. I’ll see you later.”

Claire ran, well more like sludged through the snow. Praying that she would find her friends alive she crested the hill and saw the doom of everything.

That tree she had told Allen about? Well, yeah… From the looks of things Kyle and Chris had managed to bail before the snowmobile met the tree. Oh, this was not going to go well.

Into Mossfollow Wood: Trapped

Claire looked at Beth down in the snow. Served her right for sitting on that branch; it was broken. She climbed down out of the tree and offered Beth a hand up.

“Think Grandpa will catch them?”

“Oh, I think your grandpa will be chasing those two for a while. I heard you offer Cal a tree?”

Claire looked at Beth, “Yeah, I did. But I guess he doesn’t want it. I have to wait for Kyle and Chris to get here.”

They stood there looking at each other when they heard a yell and followed by a lot of barking and snarling. Beth took of running and Claire scrambled to get back up in the tree.

Alan came running by first and clambered up into the tree, Cal wasn’t too far behind him and just made it up into the lower branches when the largest dog Claire had seen came snapping and growling at his heels.

“Who’s dog is that?”

“You know, I don’t have a clue.”

Alan looked up at Claire, “Do you have anything that will scare him off.”

“Uh, no. I think we’ll be stuck. I wonder if Grandpa knows whose it is?”

Claire moved down to sit on the branch above Cal, “Where is my grandpa?”

Alan and Cal looked at each other and then her. “I don’t know. We’d just split and he was right behind me before I ran into that.”

Snow Surprise

“Oh the weather outside is frightful,

and the snow is not delightful

and since I have some place to go!

Stop the snow, stop the snow, stop the SNOW!”

Cameron looked out at the snow falling down, it was well past the level he felt comfortable driving in. He was supposed to be meeting a blind date tonight, but this arctic rush came through and blew those plans out the window. He was just heading up the stairs to go change into sweats and get comfortable for a long, lonely, cold night when there was a knock at the door.

Opening the door, he found Jace on the other side. “Move man! I’m freezing my balls off here.” Cameron moved before he got ran over, grabbing the bags that were shoved into his chest as he gaped at Jace.

Jace hung up his coat, tugged of his shoes and locked the door, before turning and shutting Cameron’s mouth with a forefinger. “Honey your going to catch flies if you keep looking at me like that.”

Coming out of his surprise, Cameron was befuddled; “W… w… what are you doing here?”

“You didn’t think I’d miss our date did you?”

December Blog Chain (This time it is…)

This post is part of the December 2013 Blog Chain at Absolute Write. This month’s prompt is “250-Word Story Chain, or, The Blog-O-Phone.”

Orion_Mk3, Ralph Pines and ishtar’sgate come before me with the beginning three sections of the story.

 Mossfollow Wood (pt. 4)

Claire Wiggins stopped her slide as she watched the two grown men head off in two separate directions. They had both dropped their axes. She started to laugh knowing it would carry through the woods. She didn’t laugh in public ’cause now matter how she tried, she still sounded like a cackling witch.

She wondered how much longer it would take for the other contenders to come for this tree. Sliding all the way down, she dropped into the snow. Looking at the tree,  she realized that the axe hadn’t cut that deep despite how hard Ostafinski had swung. For such a large man that sure was a crappy swing.

Claire listened to the woods. She figured she’d best remove the axes and wipe away some of the foot prints before someone else came. Climbing back up to the upper branches, she peered out trying to see where everyone else was. Grandpa had told her this was the tree to hold on to. It was supposed to be the one that they were running lights out to. He said that after the initial rush, she could run the lights out in the afternoon.  Kyle and Chris were currently making their way from grandpa’s barn to this tree running the lights up the other trees along the way.

Claire looked and saw Ms. McHugh headed her way. Oh this should be fun. She looked at her array of supplies and wondered what she should dropp. She saw the red dye…

Okay. I was going to participate in a few blogging events this week. But, I am now in the middle of musical houses. Two of my sisters are switching houses and I am switching rooms in the house I live in. Can this get any more confusing?? Some how I have to pack up the room I am in and move it the room downstairs in two days. Uh it took me a whole month to move my house. How can I move one room in two days. Especially when I am very short on boxes and moving supplies. Well we’ll see how it goes….
