A Writer's Journey of a Secluded Mind

Advice to my past self –

I’ve seen this on a few of the Youtube channels that I follow and thought that it would make a great post. I’m just going to give myself five pieces of advice that for my past self that I have since learned now.

1. Your Grandpa really really does know what he is talking about when he tells you to not get a credit card. Don’t. You’ll get a chance to build credit when you buy a car. Once you learn how to live off of your paycheck then get ONE not 5.

2. Decorate your apartments yourself. Do not let others help. Listen and learn from their advice but do it yourself, otherwise it will be almost two decades later and you will not feel like you have a home because it doesn’t fit your personality.

3. Keep exercising! You always feel so great when you’re in shape. Work to keep that attitude going and do not let the negativity that surrounds you get you down.

4. Laugh. Your kid is cute. Cherish the moments when he giggles. He turns into a teenager one day.

5. Go talk to the rental agency. You only need one more month!! Think about your childhood and then put Josh first. One more month, that job you want and need? It’s there February 19th.

Just a few things for me. Now what do I tell my future self?

Share below any advice you would give yourself. Feel free to link a post to your blog.

I got to meet R A Salvatore!!!

I realize I write this a week late. And while I remember what happened my words for reality are a bit…. Lacking. Though, I was extremely lucky in that I stood over to the side of where the main area was so I would be able to see. I am rather short. And just happened to be standing where the lovely employee started the line for book signing. There were a few people there before me and of course they went ahead of me but still, I wasn’t at the back of the line. Though I would have waited.

Last week I had the honor of attending a book signing at Barnes and Noble hosting, R. A. Salvatore.

R.A. Salvatore is the author of one of the best known elves (in my opinion), Drizzt Do’Urden (a Drow).

A Forgotten Realms author and sadly the man who killed Chewbacca.

Sorry Tolkien fans, but I loved Drizzt long before Legolas. I learned Drizzt was born July 11, 1987.  ( A younger man 😉 ) Who wouldn’t love the rebel going against the grain? Protecting those who need it and fighting for what was right. I mean, an elf…

I was glad to be able to go to the signing and found Mr. Salvatore to be very personable. Answering questions and giving honest advice.

He spent an hour talking with us and then being one of the first of many in line to get my book signed. I am unsure how long he was there, but there was a very long line when I left.

I remember reading many of the books while I was at sea. Spent most of my time reading the series. I am now a bit behind, but that is what happens.

Some of my favorite quotes:

“Worry about writing the best book you can.”

“Write characters that people care about.”

“I do the outline and then ignore it.”

I think though what stands out is the fact that write, not by candle light but write. And get a degree a job that can support you as you write.

feb 024

I will be visiting his store to order signed books. Just as soon as I can… [ ] or the store [ ] I briefly looked at the store. I may needs order a t-shirt.

After listening to him, I realized that I still love writing and I have ran out of excuses and must face my characters and put them back on the path to somewhere.  And that I too toss my outline to the side to later add to it and see where my characters have veered off the path.

I have yet to meet an author or speak with one via media that hasn’t had a character or two take on a life of their own.

All I can say, if there is a meet and greet of some kind with someone who you admire and want to meet, GO! Just go and enjoy.

Hugs & Kisses

Share Your World – week 8

Oh! It’s that time of week again! Share Your World time! We’re on week 8 which is really quite exciting that I have managed to get at least one post done each week.

Here are the questions and the answers…

Your favorite blog post that you have written? (add link)

Okay, I really don’t remember all of the posts I’ve written. But the most recent would be the Gnomey Christmas. And I’m only choosing that one because so making fun of myself.

What do you feel is the most enjoyable way to spend $500? Why?

Kindle  Books!! I love to read. Now that would be the having fun and just spending it. That and maybe a few years subscriptions to some different servers for games 😀

If you could know the answer to any question, besides “What is the meaning of life?”, what would it be?

I can’t print that! I am not even sure how much I want to know the answer.

Where do you eat breakfast?

ummm… What is breakfast?

Bonus question:  What are you grateful for from last week, and what are you looking forward to in the week coming up?

Last week was meeting R.A. Salvatore. That was the greatest! This week…. My Lootcrate box! I can’t wait for it to get here. There is so much cool stuff in it!

It’s gonna be late

I was supposed to post last night. Went to a book signing by R A Salvatore. OhMG.

Currently struggling with GoTs I have to finish season one. Next ep. Up is #8. Been told its the ninth one to watch for. Up late tonight. 😄

Share Your World – Week 7

Week 7, Share Your World. Some more wonderful insights, if a bit late.

Is the paper money in your possession right now organized sequentially according to denomination and with the bills right side up and facing the same way?

I actually do not have any paper money on me. It went to the kids for chores over the weekend. But I try to keep it all organized, however I usually have the small numbers on the outside.

What is your favorite type of dog?  (can be anything from a specific breed, a stuffed animal or character in a movie)

A stuffed one. Though I have none personally. Dogs are nice and all, but I am much more of a cat person. Honestly, I do like dogs. I love them even more when they are someone else’s and can go home with them.

If money was not an issue, would you go on a cruise?  If so where would you go?

I wouldn’t. Not to say the cruises don’t look like a lot of fun. But I get atrociously sea sick. So a cruise on a ship on the water. No. Now, that’s not to say a nice three month walk about up and down the United Kingdom isn’t in the plans. 😀

Would you dare to sleep in haunted house overnight?

Sure. Why not? I mean what could possible go wrong? lol

Bonus question:  What are you grateful for from last week, and what are you looking forward to in the week coming up?

I am grateful that the worst of this head-cold is on its way out the door. It laid four of us flat this weekend. Miserable. I did get a four day weekend though.

Now for this week? If I am really lucky and the stars stay aligned, I get to meet one of my favorite authors tomorrow evening. Crossed fingers.. 😀
