A Writer's Journey of a Secluded Mind

I wonder if anyone else has noticed this that in social media if you show skin, you get followers. And if you show skin, they seem to want more. I would love to say it has to be good skin, but well people have unique tastes is all I can say.

And people talk about it, see I am talking about it here. I just don’t want to name names or point fingers or offer publicity for people. I agree skin sells. It sold me. I look and I like looking, but I think there is a very thin line between showing skin to offer pointers in exercise or a hey look I have abs and oh my god you did not just show me that!

Look at how much the ‘famous’ people sell magazines for showing skin. Even non-famous persons sell items by showing skin. And sometimes the skin showing has nothing to do with what is being sold. Is this mis-representation of the item being sold?

I wonder how much all that skin showing will come back to bite people on the bums as they climb the ladder to success. I wonder how much the lack of skin showing, the lack of showing be at all will make the climb that much harder for myself. I may just need a model to put up to gather followers….

But that is another post… I am talking about how I do not show skin. Therefore I do not get the media presence that I would like to have to sell the items I am selling. I do cheat on this. I show skin, drawn skin, as in near nude portraits of the men from my imagination to sell the books I have written. It sells. It works. The books that have nakedness sell better than the books that do not. But sex sells, and if the book doesn’t have sex in it, I do not put the sexy pic on the cover. Makes sense, then I am not false advertising.

But some social sites are starting to put restrictions on how much clothing the host needs to have on in order to stream or broadcast their channel. There are even media sites that you have to have the age restrictions in place in order to post, show, promote half nude/skin showing images.

How do you feel about people using near-nakedness/nakedness to sell themselves and/or their products?

Do you think that there is a point where too much skin is too much?

Share Your World – 2014 week 46 (for me- still lost count lol)

Yet again I am participating in Cee’s Share Your World weekly prompt. I love these prompts. I am finding my voice and my joy in writing again. 😀

On a vacation what you would require in any place that you sleep?

A bed! A bed that I do not have to share. Well, maybe a cute bear to keep me warm? But really a nice bed with blankets that I could snuggle down into and pretend that I didn’t have to get. up. Hey, wait I would be on vacation I wouldn’t have to get up. I could snuggle down with a good book and maybe a warm body(?) and just relax. 😀

Music or silence while working?

Music, noise that I can control so I don’t hear what is going on around me so I can work. If there is something on that has a beat I find that I type faster and can get more work done whether it be getting a post done, working on my latest project or actually getting real life pay me work done.

If you were to move and your home came fully furnished with everything you ever wanted, list at least three things from your old house you wish to retain?

My tub of stories: written, in-progress, to be done, research. I could not leave with out that tub it has decades of information in it. My books and my pictures. Needless to say, my son would be coming with me and whatever it is he would need.

What’s your least favorite mode of transportation?

Oh, boy. That is a complete toss up- plane or ship. I do not like the take off or the landing of the planes, it just feels unnatural. It’s that queasy sea sick feeling in the back of my ears that makes the plane so hard. Then I just get plain seasick on a ship. (Even the little motor boats make me sea sick.)

Bonus question:  What are you grateful for from last week, and what are you looking forward to in the week coming up?

Well I’ll just say I am grateful for last week and leave it at that. This week? Well, not so much looking forward but wondering how I can start incorporating my virtual life with my corporeal life.

Share your World – Week 45 (for me??)

My answers to Cee’s Share your World prompt for week 45.

Some times I really hate how honest these questions make me and that at my age due to choices I have made in life, I still cannot make my posts as true colored as they need to be. There is no dishonesty in my answers. Just some are stopped before I can complete the whole truth. I find it amazing the little gems I am finding in myself the more I answer these questions.

What is your favorite color?

Okay, my favorite color is purple. I just love it. It is an awesome color. I am still saving for it, but I found the perfect car. A PURPLE Honda Fit. Just the right size.

In what do you find the simplest of joys?

A simple joy- being able to sit and read a good book, completing a story and getting it published. I get tickled pink that it is out there yet completely bummed because while I loved my story, they are never widely received….

But really, one simple joy I miss is cooking for people who appreciate the fact I just slaved over the stove to make them a meal. Knowing the people I care about /live with are fed and and happy is a good feeling. At times I think a good home cooked meal brings back simpler times and just slows the world down a little.

Would you prefer a reading nook or an art, craft, photography studio?

Kindle please. I love mine. A good thing and  a bad thing how much easier it is to have the thousands of books that I do.

What is at least one of your favorite quotes?

I honestly am coming up with a blank. I can think of one, that is a very good quote, but well… I can’t explain it.

Bonus question:  What are you grateful for from last week, and what are you looking forward to in the week coming up?

I will be grateful if I am not banned/blocked/stopped from the chat I love. I am looking forward to learning how to enforce boundaries between the internet friendships/worships/attractions…

Follower Etiquette

I have come to the conclusion with little input from others that I really do not know what a “Follower’s Etiquette” entails.

Have you come across someone you follow and you enjoy following them, but they seem to have disappeared?

Now in this day and age where so many physical boundaries are breached by the internet, what is the proper way to ask if they are okay?

That to me is the question of the day. How does one say ‘Hey everything all right?” knowing that you are virtual strangers and that how someone appears online/in text is not always who they wholly are. But that it is a faucet of them that you get to see. Sometimes it is the best, and sometimes it is the tip of the iceberg.

Can people get to know each other via electronics? While I would not consider this friend, a strong acquaintance is not the strongest word either. Can chat reveal a person to another.

In this day and age, is it safer to just wait. To say “Hey, I thought about you the other day” when they show back up.

The same could be said for distant friends, distance making it hard to hunt them down. To make sure they are okay.

And this could just be me. I’ve been this way forever. There are just some people some faces you come to rely on to improve your day. Hoping that in someway you in turn provide some inspiration to them or someone else down the road.

But at what point is too much, too much? I am afraid I do not know. Etiquette was never my strong suit, I have been the bull in the china shop barging in. With a gruff attitude, and an offbeat humor that does not translate well in person let alone on the internet I can be off-putting.

There is the key point, am I wondering because I am being my true nosy need to know everyone’s business but my own self? Or am I truly hoping everything is okay? In this case, I can say a little of both. I do hope that all is well and that it truly is a case of life just running its course and things happen.

Then if that is the case, updates are needed.

Oh, that is so the pot calling the kettle. I am now making myself laugh. I myself have been known in moments of frustration to just disappear off  the internet. So I guess in a way karma has come back to show me that it is a let down to followers to just disappear and not say ‘Hey, I am taking a momentary hiatus”.

at the same time to remember, in life’s disappointments to come back, come to where like minds are. Where people have experienced the same life choices and let downs or up lifts. While I now have answered some of my previous questions, I still do not know if it is appropriate to ask, “are you okay?”
