Frank – collected with a new piece.

Frank

“Why are you still here?” Frank was amazed and worried. When he had talked to Jake it had sounded like the weekend had gone well, but Nat was back to work on Wednesday. Well Nat’s body was back at work, his mind not so much.

Nat looked up at Frank obviously trying to hold it in, Frank melted. “Come here kid.” Nat came for the hug and comfort he so obviously needed. He started bawling and all Frank could do was hold him. He’d be talking to Jake tonight. “Shh.. It’ll all work out.”

“There was nothing I could do” Frank was saying later that night. “He was devastated Jake, how could you just leave him here?” Frank had spent all morning in the auto office consoling Nat instead of working on the car that was due the end of this week. Nat had needed it. “You do realize I had no choice but to bring him home. He’s asleep in the guest room.”

“I had no choice, he has to make this decision.” Frank could hear Jake growling at the sound of his boy in someone else’s house. “He has a lot of issues and I’m moving over there as soon as I have everything here straitened out. .”

“But to leave him like this?” Frank was growling now. Both of these men he cared about and they were both stubborn. He knew Nat wouldn’t call Jake and Jake like the good Dom he was would give Nat room to figure things out. “Well don’t wait too long, I don’t want to lose another office admin. That kid has the auto shop running so tight. He has to get it together before the boys in back find out.”

Frank ran his hand over his head. He was losing hair quickly and these two were not helping him.

“I’ve already talked to an agent. I just have to find a place over there. Keep an I on him.” Jake let out a huge sigh. Frank could hear him drop onto some furniture. “I’ll try to get back quickly.”

“He’s not going to call you.”

“I know Frank.”

“Just… just keep an eye on him. I have to make sure I have everything ready before I can give him what he needs.” Frank could see Jake sitting with his head in his hands. He’d seen that pose many times when Jake was working out a problem. “I’m coming for him. I don’t think he believes that. But I am coming for him.”

Frank snorted. Kid had gotten under the almighty Jake’s skin. “You fell for him.”

“Yeah.”

(Not Posted)

Frank watched as Nat and Jake left the shop. It was closing time and he was once again going home to an empty house. He was envious for his friend. Envious and well… He had mentored Jake and now was happy to see his friend settle down with his own sub.

He should probably go and check in on the club. See the new crop of boys, but who was he kidding?

Making sure the office was locked as well as the store front, Frank walked back to the shop just as they guys pulled down the doors.

“You going out to play tonight?”

“Not tonight boys. I have some things to do.” Frank watched as everyone got into their cars and drove off before going and getting on his bike. He checked his messages

There is a rogue out. We may need to tighten security. Talk in the morning.

Frank looked at the sky. Just what the community needed. Well nothing for it tonight.

Yep. Bugs. Simple and easy.
Prose, poetry, play. Fiction, nonfiction. It’s all good, all bugs.

“Jake! Jake! Jake!”

Jake came running from the shop with Frank right behind him, “What?”

Nat was standing on the table in front of the couch in his office, “B-b-b-b-b-bug!” He pointed over towards the corner behind his desk.

Jake walked over to look thinking it would be a little beetle or something, nope! He scooted right back to stand behind Nat, he wasn’t quite joining him on the table. “Frank?!”

Frank walked around the desk and looked down, a very large, ugly, brown beetle was sitting in the corner. Frank grabbed a cup and a piece of paper and scooped up the bug. “I’ll just take this outside.”

“My Hero!” Nat jumped into a laughing Jake’s arms.

Frank checked with each Security station, the dungeon master, his partner James, double checked that Nat and Jake had indeed left and walked out the door.

He made sure that his phone was on. Every now and then something happened and he had to go back. Rarely as he was more the silent partner. He was growing tired of the games. Tired of trying to find a little innocence in the fresh faces that came in with each new crop.

He’d given the training of the subs and Masters over to Dirk, their new Dungeon Master. Upgrading security and hiring someone, that someone being a long time friend of all of theirs and his security firm. Well that had been a stroke of genius and a little luck. He could use a little luck, he seemed to be spending more time in the shop running herd on the boys there, watching over his friends.

Frank was ready for love to come his way.

Frank saw the screen on his phone flash. Dirk.

“Hello?”

“Frank, we have a problem.”

I got to meet R A Salvatore!!!

I realize I write this a week late. And while I remember what happened my words for reality are a bit…. Lacking. Though, I was extremely lucky in that I stood over to the side of where the main area was so I would be able to see. I am rather short. And just happened to be standing where the lovely employee started the line for book signing. There were a few people there before me and of course they went ahead of me but still, I wasn’t at the back of the line. Though I would have waited.

Last week I had the honor of attending a book signing at Barnes and Noble hosting, R. A. Salvatore.

R.A. Salvatore is the author of one of the best known elves (in my opinion), Drizzt Do’Urden (a Drow).

A Forgotten Realms author and sadly the man who killed Chewbacca.

Sorry Tolkien fans, but I loved Drizzt long before Legolas. I learned Drizzt was born July 11, 1987.  ( A younger man 😉 ) Who wouldn’t love the rebel going against the grain? Protecting those who need it and fighting for what was right. I mean, an elf…

I was glad to be able to go to the signing and found Mr. Salvatore to be very personable. Answering questions and giving honest advice.

He spent an hour talking with us and then being one of the first of many in line to get my book signed. I am unsure how long he was there, but there was a very long line when I left.

I remember reading many of the books while I was at sea. Spent most of my time reading the series. I am now a bit behind, but that is what happens.

Some of my favorite quotes:

“Worry about writing the best book you can.”

“Write characters that people care about.”

“I do the outline and then ignore it.”

I think though what stands out is the fact that write, not by candle light but write. And get a degree a job that can support you as you write.

feb 024

I will be visiting his store to order signed books. Just as soon as I can… [ rasalvatore.com ] or the store [ rasalvastore.com ] I briefly looked at the store. I may needs order a t-shirt.

After listening to him, I realized that I still love writing and I have ran out of excuses and must face my characters and put them back on the path to somewhere.  And that I too toss my outline to the side to later add to it and see where my characters have veered off the path.

I have yet to meet an author or speak with one via media that hasn’t had a character or two take on a life of their own.

All I can say, if there is a meet and greet of some kind with someone who you admire and want to meet, GO! Just go and enjoy.

Hugs & Kisses

Valentine’s…

Janelle looked at the photo in her hand. Why she was here she didn’t know. Meggie had begged her saying that someone had to show. That leaving Max here to wait alone was just too wrong. That she could choose who she introduced Max to.

Uggh. She hated Disneyland. This was not her idea of fun and the half a million times she’d been dragged her had been by Meggie over the last five years. And the teacups? Really on Valentine’s Day, Meggie was supposed to have met Max. But no, being one of the few friends who could not go to Vegas for the elopement, Janelle was stuck breaking the poor man’s heart. Well not poor, she guessed.

Pausing, Janelle double checked the pictures on her phone. Meggie had sent her a few more in the last few minutes along with pictures of her wedding dress and the venue. How that girl had set things up so quickly in the last month was beyond her.

Sending a quick prayer and a small peek to make sure everything was how it was supposed to be, stupid shorts, Janelle started walking a little more quickly towards the ride. Supposedly they were meeting on the far side away from where the entrance to the ride was. Well not her and Max, but Meggie and Max.

She stopped and frowned. She was sure she knew who this was? How could she forget this face? People changed a lot in five years, she knew this from experience. Being a very fluid and happy person now. Man, Meggie had changed her life, made her face a few cold hard truths about herself.

But, those truths allowed her to be a better manager to her clients, though they weren’t really clients. More like an extended family that she had picked and chosen and luckily had been allowed into their lives. Though Meggie had more like stormed in and taken over, hence Janelle walking in 3-inch platforms on her way to the ride of horrors.

She did have to smile though, her family kept her hopping and depending on what or who was needed Janelle was able to haggle with the best of them and keep all of them happy and fed.

Looking up from her phone Janelle saw him in person. Watched his face as he recognized her. Saw the smile and the appreciation. Now Janelle knew…

A Gnomey Christmas

I am prefacing this with an apology to all World of Warcraft players. I haven’t been in the world in a long time and am just using a bit of fanfic and a whole lotta giggles to write this.  To those who possible know where this comes from, Forgive Me?

And now…   A Gnomey Christmas

As a baby Arcane Mage, Jelly knew she really should not have been playing with snow. How was she supposed to know that it would land in the house? In the growly bear’s room. Which was off limits and thus being off limits, it was Draw and Odd’s job to clean up the mess. She cooked, retrieved tea took care of the garden (icky dirt) but did not clean. The kitchens yes, the rest of the garrison, no.

Pulling at the weeds in the herb garden, she was grounded from playing with magic at the moment. As there was no one around to get her from where ever she teleported. That really was an odd thing to keep happening…

“hmmmph” yanking at a rather tough weed, wait. That wasn’t a weed, Jelly sat back on her heels and growled. And promptly landed on her ass, well might as well lay all the way down.

It was the shiny boots next to her head that got her attention. The shiny boots and shiny wings, which meant maybe the growly bear had not been in the house? Obviously to the tavern, not the house?

“Yes the house.”  Oops did she say that out loud?

“Yes. Finish the garden. Then help them out.”

Well at least it wasn’t an anaconda, or a fox.  Well, it could have been a bunch of bananas, ooo maybe Odd would let her work on conjuring up bananas? Or maybe Draw would for her? Bananas had to be good for something.

“JELLY!”

Standing up, Jelly looked up. Damn paladin was too tall. Why was she a gnome again?

“Snow goes outside. Wait until someone can help. Please?”

It was the tired sound that got her, “Okay.” Bananas were definitely needed.

Crawling across Draw and Odd that night Jelly snuggled down against the far side of the bed. “Thanks guys.”

“Your gonna get killed for the bananas you know.”

“Yup and you’ll be right there with me.”

“A dwarf, a gnome and  a paladin walk into a kitchen.” Jelly stopped tilting her head, “I can’t go anywhere with that.”

Waiving her hand, the teas landing where they were supposed to for once. On the bar, not in laps. Though that last time wasn’t an accident. One really should not question her cooking methods, or have such poor language in the house. So sad that person would not be back.

“That really would have been in poor taste”

Jelly just smiled, silly bear of course it was in poor taste. Serving up the chicken, veggies and icky potatoes she listened as they discussed guild matters, raids, quests and other what not that really did not make any sense. Maybe a trip to the library again, or wait. She could go play cards tonight. hmmmmm

“I’ll be gone for a bit.”

“okay.”

Jelly looked at the house. It had been hard sneaking out on Christmas night. The bed creaked, the floors were cold and the dang door squeaked again. She’d have to fix that later. But for now….

“Merry Christmas!”

“and where is our little gnomey-gnome?”

Odd and Draw looked at each other and ran out the front door into white powdery stuff.

“She did it.”

“It’s your turn to go get her”

“Yep she did. Care to explain the snow and the bananas?”

Looking up at the paladin, the dwarf and gnome looked back down at each other.

“ummmm…”

Jelly sat quietly at Razorscale’s Aerie. It was a safe spot as long as she stayed still. Such a pretty dragon flying overhead, shouldn’t take the silly paladin more than two hours to clear out the area so she could go home. The trouble caused when messing with things one should not do. Good thing the realm had a reset button. Yep, a very Merry Christmas to all.

Now about that last spell…
